Kodak and the Rochester chapter of Women In Film will be presenting "Stop By. Shoot Film." Participants will talk with a top cinematographer, learn how to use a 16mm camera and film, then shoot their own scene. The program is offered to WIF members for $25. There's no better time to become a member of WIF Rochester. Fee for non-members is $35. Space is limited, so please contact WIF Rochester to sign up.

The 2007 Latina New Filmmaker Grant competition (administered by New York Women In Film and Television) has concluded and five talented filmmakers have been selected by a group of entertainment industry leaders to receive a full-immersion in the business of filmmaking.
Congratulations to Xochiti Gonzalez, Sarah Duran, Brenda Zuniga from Los Angeles, Michelle Malley-Campos from Puerto Rico, and Erika Bagnarello from Costa Rica.

New York Women In Film and Television is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. Some of the events scheduled include Who Moved the Glass Ceiling, a panel to include a variety of top women leaders in the entertainment business, like actress Estelle Parsons and Cheri Kaufman, co-owner and Exec. V.P. of New York's landmark Kaufman Astoria Studios. Also check out the NYWIFT Festival of Short Films, wherein 30 years of work from NYWIFT members and NYWIFT grant and scholarship recipients will be showcased. Since its announcement in January 2005, the Women In Film/General Motors Alliance has been helping 20 Women In Film chapters nationwide to achieve shared goals that once seemed out of reach. The Alliance's diverse programs support education, networking and mentorship opportunities. Women In Film proudly congratulates filmmaker Cynthia Wade and her producer Vanessa Roth on winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject for Freeheld, which was finished through the Women In Film Foundation's Film Finishing Fund. Her short film, New Business, has been accepted into the Slamdance competition at Park City. The festival runs January 18 through January 24, 2008. Read more about Julia here



2007 Scholarship Recipients:

Women in Film Dallas has announced their two 2007 Scholarship Recipients, Shari DeVore and Elizabeth Daggett. You can read more about them here.

Applications are no longer being accepted for the two immersion grants. Winners of the 2007 Latina New Filmmaker Grant: Opening Doors/Abriendo Puertas have been announced and will take place in New York and at the Hampton Film Festival; winners of the 2007 Acceleration Grant for Emerging Filmmakers will be announced in early October and take place in Los Angeles during the American Film Market. In 2007, seven talented women were selected as winners.

This year, ten finalists were chosen from a field of 125 applicants from 21 states and six foreign countries. Check them out here.

This year 9 films have been chosen for this special fund which restores and preserves important films in which women have played significant creative roles.
